Top 10 Techno Hits Of The Decade

Readers of technology magazine Stuff have voted for their Top 10 favourite techno picks of the past decade.



BlackberryIn at No. 10 with 1.1% of the vote is the all-singing and all-dancing Blackberry from which you can keep up everyone by singing and downloading emails on the go.


Oyster Card

In at No.9 is the Oyster Card, brought for the London under the then mayor, Ken Livingstone.

Its convenience for travel with no money required and top-up online won it 1.5% of the vote.



SkypeSkype wins 1.7% of the vote for its free video conference availability, as well as its cheap phone calls around the world.


NintendoIn at No. 7, with a jump to 3.9% is Nintendo’s Wii. It’s a video game with a difference that crosses the generation gap and gives the couch a chance to get some exercise.


chip and pin technologyThe chip and pin technology has removed the need for cheques and wadges of cash and cut down on fraud. Some 5.6% of Stuff readers think it’s a top 10 innovation.


iPodSharing the same 5.6% as the chip and pin vote, the iPod gets the award for style. The all-in-one personal media player has lifted the spirits of teccies and music lovers everywhere.


Hybrid carsHybrid cars win the hearts of 8.9% if Stuff readers. Their combine use electricity and petrol is both environmentally practical and makes sense financially, particularly when fuel prices are so volatile.


electronic navigationThe Sat Nav’s popularity reaches double figures with 16.6% voting for it. Most people who have this electronic navigation device say it’s cut down on the number of family rows over map reading.



Sky+And in at No. 2 is BSkyB’s own Sky+ which won 16.6% of the vote. Its ability to pause live TV and actually record the programmes you want has changed TV addicts’s lives for ever.


Wi-Fi internetAnd finally, in that all important No. 1 spot with a sensational 35.5% of the vote is the Wi-Fi, the wireless Internet, offering up the Internet anywhere and bringing an end to the messy cable of the 1990s.
